Workout At Work

Work starting to get you down? Frustrated by long hours? Energy levels low?

I am writing this blog because it is something I am passionate about. It frustrates me to hear my clients tell me they have to reschedule because of work, or they are unable to stick to their routines because of their job. I don't find it fair that someone willing to transform their health and body image loses out because of a necessity earn money.

So I have teamed my business, 'Lookn Up Fitness' with 'Hybrid Evolution Fitness', to provide all businesses in the north east of England with the opportunity to improve employee health with numerous benefits to the company.

There are plentiful studies suggesting the benefits of exercise during a working day.
The statistics from various studies are quite surprising, especially in terms on productivity. Meaning that not only will working out at work support your general health, but it is also quite likely to bring you a step closer to that promotion you've always wanted, or at the very least impress your boss.

You already know exercise can reduce your risks of certain cancers, the risk of diabetes, and improve metabolism and cholesterol. Amongst a number of other things essential to longevity of life. ..

So what makes working out at work and not afterwards any different?

- If you do not have a physically active job, the likelihood is you're sat down for the majority of the day.  Epidemiologist Steven Blair, a professor of public health at the University of South Carolina, found that men who reported more than 23 hours a week of sedentary activity had a 64% greater risk of dying from heart disease than those who reported less than 11 hours a week of sedentary activity. And many of these men routinely exercised. This is all due to the sum total of hours they spent at their desks typing away. The benefits of a break to be physically active throughout the working day can not be understated from this research alone.

From this we can clearly see that sitting around all the working day is detrimental to your health, regardless of how physically active you are afterwards. Sitting at a desk for prolonged periods also promotes poor posture, and in common cases kyphosis (curving of the upper spine). This can seriously effect your quality of life in later years, and in terms of general appearance the 'hunchback' look isn't particularly flattering. Couple this with raised blood pressure due to stress, the chance of blood clots from being inactive, depression, and the sedentary diet associated with office snacks, you should have every reason to be active at work.

Why a group personal training session and not a quick trip to the gym?
Group Personal Training means you have a personal trainer on site, ready and willing, oozing with knowledge to throw your way. Something which can be a costly service. The training will specifically target areas which will enforce a proud posture, speed up your metabolism to optimise weight loss, strengthen your neglected muscles, and provide nutritional support on site. You then have a guide and coach for all aspects of health and fitness.

Could you affordably achieve this in your local gym? How long have you been working out? Have you seen the results you wanted? Why not?

All questions which can be answered and tackled head on with a professional personal trainer at your side. I personally select all my instructors and will even be training some of you myself. You could always request me too, if you're feeling brave.

Productivity:
If you're an employer reading this, or an employee wanting a reason to tell your manager, ask yourself why would my manager trial a work place workout scheme? What do they have to gain?
In simple terms, a small fortune.
It is an accepted fact that happy workers work harder. Think of the most enthusiastic people you know, I guarantee they are climbing their career ladder. It only makes sense to aim to keep your staff happy. Studies show that doing exercise at work can have the following benefits to an employer:
  • 41% increase in motivation to work
  • 27% increase in ability to deal with stress
  • 21% increase in concentration on work
  • 25% increase in ability to work with unscheduled breaks
  • 22% increase in finishing work on time
  • Less sick days to pay for
  • Promotes teamwork and comradeship
  • Boost employee moral
  • Raise Productivity
  • Promotes health competition
  • Seen actively caring for employee health

- A separate study surveyed over 10,600 workers in Europe and found workers with poor health habits display subpar work performance, and obese workers were 66% more likely to call in sick 10-24 days more than normal weighted workers, and 55% more likely to take more than 25 sick days. A lot of money to be lost as an employer.

Benefits to employee:
There are of course an abundance of benefits to employees. Exercise has its place in every ones lives, I'm sure you are more than aware of that, this is a fitness blog after all. But just to lay them out in front of you here are some of the more important benefits to exercising at work for an employee:
  • Relieves Stress
  • Reduces symptoms of depression
  • Strengthens immune system
  • Better health and body image
  • Increased confidence
  • Boost of serotonin (Good Mood Hormone)
  • Increased career prospects
  • Increased motivation
  • Lowers anxiety levels
  • Lowers blood pressure
  • Increases functional ability
  • Strengthens friendships
  • Healthy active lifestyle
  • Increased job satisfaction

More than enough reason to get started right?

I could go in depth over a lot of these points but by now you'll likely know if this would benefit you, your employer, or someone you know. So I leave the next step to you. Give your business the opportunity to flourish and find out how affordable and attainable I've made all of this is: http://www.looknupfitness.co.uk/workout-at-work/
